About Kenny:

Kenny Anderson is a nationally certified counselor with over forty years of experience in the mental health profession. He is a graduate of Oakwood University (B.A., Psychology, and Alabama A&M University (M.S., Clinical Psychology, 1990). On January 25, 2013, he was appointed Multicultural Affairs Officer for the City of Huntsville by Mayor Tommy Battle after spending 16 years at Calhoun Community College, most recently as Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences. On August 26, 2021, the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion was established, and Kenny was appointed Director.

Since 1990, Kenny has been the host/producer of a live, weekly radio talk show called "2nd Chance" broadcast every Sunday on WJOU Praise 90.1 FM, Oakwood University's radio station, at 2pm CST in Huntsville. The show celebrated 31 years of broadcasting in November 2021 and can be heard every Sunday at 2 pm CST at www.wjou.org, (Net) and 90.1 FM (locally).

Kenny has established two endowed academic scholarships, the Jack & Annie Anderson 2nd Chance Endowed Scholarship at Calhoun Community College and the ‘212 Community Service Scholarship at Oakwood University. In 2018, Kenneth launched Leadership Empowerment Enterprise, a 501©(3) focusing on personal growth and development, lifetime mentoring and philanthropy. As Executive Director, he provides strategic initiatives to insure that effective legacies are established for future generations.

Kenny is a past Chairman of the United Way of Madison County, Interfaith Mission Service’s Racial Harmony Coalition and is a former member of the City of Huntsville’s Human Relations Commission. He has written as a Community Columnist for the Huntsville Times and received numerous awards and recognitions for over two decades of community service. He has professional affiliations with the Huntsville Rotary Club, National Board of Certified Counselors, 100 Black Men of America- Greater Huntsville Chapter, Association of Black Psychologists and American Psychological Association. He currently serves on the boards of Partnership for a Drug Free Community, First Stop, Inc., Better Business Bureau of North Alabama, The Catalyst Center for Business & Entrepreneurship and Phoenix.
